Launch of New FSWC Project

First Steps Women’s Centre (FSWC) recently launched the Women Towards Education & Employment Programme – a three year programme part-funded by Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) and the European Social Fund (ESF).

Mr. Robin Swann, MLA and Chairperson of the DEL Committee was present to officially launch this innovative programme which aims to provide a holistic, personalised programme to up-skill and empower unemployed and economically inactive women for the workplace.

The new Progamme will provide up to 280 women per year with training across a wide range of vocational areas and will address and remove barriers experienced by women by providing additional services such as transport, onsite crèche, confidential counselling and Benefit Checker support.

Speaking at the Launch Michael McGoldrick, CEO, said “Our Programme is the first step to enable participants to develop and hone skills that they will need to seek and gain employment or self-employment. We have built upon the experience and success of our previous ESF programmes to specifically meet the needs of women who want to get a job.”

A Personal Development Plan will be devised for each participant to help them meet their individual training, development and employment targets. Application forms and further information on the training courses and support available can be obtained at www.firststepswomenscentre.org or by contacting the Centre on 028 87727648.
