“I want them to see that I am still alive, that they did not kill me, not my body, not my soul.”

Safeta knew the soldiers who raped and tortured her. Before conflict erupted in Bosnia and Herzegovina she would see them nearly every day. They were her neighbours.

As you may know, Women for Women International was set up in 1993 to help women who were faced with horrific violence in that conflict. With the help of supporters like you, we helped Safeta recover from her nightmare and now she stands tall, an inspiration to us all.

I’m Gillian Anderson and I’m incredibly proud to be an Ambassador for Women for Women International because I believe that in this world of conflict and uncertainty, women can (and need) to be part of the solution.

I’m writing to you today to ask for your help, because we have an exciting opportunity.

Our programmes, operating in conflict-shattered countries like Iraq, Nigeria and Afghanistan, give women survivors of war the tools and the opportunities they need to break free from the ordeals they have gone through. The chance to stand tall like Safeta.

But they can only do this if we’re able to continue to fund our programmes. For one week only, every donation we receive will be doubled by a fantastic group of supporters.

I’m donating and I hope you will too. Your donation could help another survivor of war like Safeta.
Here are some examples of what your donation, doubled, could do – helping women to start their own businesses so they can gain knowledge and confidence – and create their own futures.

£30 (doubled to £60) – could purchase a sewing machine for women training as tailors
£50 (doubled to £100) – could pay for numeracy training, so women can start a business and manage their household finances
£85 (doubled to £170) – could pay for a bee-keeper basket, with all the supplies needed to set up a bee-keeping business

Like all survivors of sexual violence, Safeta is not defined by her ordeal – it is not her whole story. Women for Women International urgently needs more funds so that more women survivors can enrol in our programme and gain the tools and support they need to overcome their ordeals and stand tall.

Please help! Thank you.
